    Great points, it’s funny how the Mavis by me is always finding fluid replacements or flushes needed, however they never tell me to high speed balance my tires when rotating and then my steering wheel wobbles over 60mph

    Thanks! Very informative. I’m sure we all have been victim of these car repair scams. They constantly try to up sale people to purchase services that they don’t need. Quick change oil places that provide other repair services are the worst. They seem to always find something else that you should really need to replace like air, cabin and fuel filters that are clean and barely used. Unfortunately they really target woman and prey on their fear and lack of knowledge. One tried to tell my wife she needed the engine mounts replaced because they were broken and the engine was at risk of falling out. She called me and I told her to leave there without getting anything serviced. Had my mechanic check the mounts and he said they were fine and she was being scammed. It’s too bad you didn’t have a hidden camera installed under your car recording what the mechanic actually did during that visit. That would have been interesting to see what they actually did during the alignment.

    I ended up doing a head gasket job on my grand caravan, not because the gasket was blown, but because of a busted spark plug. Gave it all a good clean, cleaned the throttle body, EGR valve, new PCV valve, new plugs and leads, got a full gasket kit & replaced the head gaskets, valve stem seals, injector o-rings and the valve cover gaskets, the lot. It runs really well now! :o)

    When I would do alignment checks and the toe was out slightly I’d adjust it and take the risk that the service writer would sell an alignment. It saved time. Every once in a while it burned me but it’s ok.

      I’m not a mechanic so I appreciate the video. I have a very reliable mechanic who I would trust with my life to align my tires. I would have them aligned, then go to the tire store to have the tires put on. If they tell me the alignments off that I know it’s all bullshit.

    One mistake that was made was not loosening the fastener each time, but length definitely has an impact even with using a universal socket. But doing the way it was done in the video can over torque a joint, giving an incorrect clamp load.

    Shops will also fake the alignment report so either you do approve it and they don't do anything but take your money or when the crappy out of date tires they just sold you fail within warranty they can say the warranty is void cause their records show your car was out of alignment.

    What were the first off the thing I need to mention is when you get a new car you take it over to Discount Tire and have them check the tread depth! They have signs and their waiting area showing how much tread depth is normally on a new new tire and what type of Tire you're getting whether it's rated a b or c now the tires that normally come on new cars or usually the lowest rated or the lowest amount of mileage so you can expect to end up replacing those tires within 30000 Mi give or take 5 or 10 miles either, number two also I don't know if this brake shop chain is in your part of the country it's called brake check headquartered out of San Antonio they have a lifetime alignment policy four-wheel alignment that I purchased when I got my 2014 Lincoln which is good for the life of the vehicle! The newer policies that have come out that are limited lifetime since then or probably for around 3 or 4 years but what I would suggest that you do is go out and purchase one of these limited lifetime policies and stopped paying through the nose or a over $100 for a four-wheel alignment? Brake check is going to charge you just a shop fee for that a free alignment which is 3 or 4 bucks I'm not sure what it is but it pays for their materials or whatever it is that they use? I have been using this lifetime alignment on various Vehicles since 1984 and it is at the absolute best product that you can get to have your car serviced and not have to be repaying for an alignment every time whether you hit speed bumps whether you hit large potholes all of those things will knock your alignment out you'd be surprised if you could drive over those things even slowly you will find out your alignment is still out even when you go back and have a free alignment check I do this constantly when I need to go in and maintain my tires to Discount Tires as far as balance and rotation their lifetime warranty limited warranty for those tires you purchase to them is dependent on if you go in every couple of months and get your car tires balanced and rotated and in the process I always get the front wheel or the all-wheel 4 wheel alignment done right before I take it over, there's just some things that you need to do with your vehicle on a regular basis and this maintenance is part of that! If the husband or the wife or both are getting the car done some place where it requires a four-wheel alignment and they're talking about new tires usually they're trying to upsell or sell tires to help them make money all in the same day?! Well I go to Discount that only does tire sales alignment and and rotation which is free including flat repair! I don't have to worry about going to brake check and get getting them to sell me tires when all they do is breaks and suspension work play oil changes which they run specials on half off every other oil change and every 5th oil change is free!

  • @emredikici
    @emredikici 3 дні тому

    I took my old car in for an oil change, and it took two hours to complete. At the end of the service, the mechanic came to me with a 25-30 page estimate of what repairs my car needed due to its age. I had recently replaced the transmission fluid, and sure enough, that was on the list too. If I hadn't known better about cars or if I had sent my wife to that shop, we probably would have been taken advantage of.

    The interesting next video would be disputing their invoice. Confronting the garage with evidence that no work was done. Preferably at a busy time with customers as witnesses. At a corporate level the company would not condone that behaviour. So the real test is to see what the corporate management do about it

    This is a great video. Scams like this are so frustrating, because even if you are fairly mechanically inclined like me, it’s easy to fall for the “pitch”, especially if you care a lot about keeping your vehicles well maintained like I do. Honestly it’s a brilliant move on their part to throw the chalk line on the tie rod- just a little physical proof so they have something to show the skeptical customer who suspects (often correctly) that they are getting ripped off. I hope this video gets spread far and wide on social media and that shop gets what they deserve.

    LOL.. most of these corp. places are criminals; they have so many upsale pressure that everything is a con job and rip off. Tire are Us is one of the biggest rip off. They will literally teach their employees to rip people off, with the same type of garbage as this guy went through. And if employee don't follow the upsale scam, soon they will have no job. In fact, the corp. higher up managers are actually tracking each employees labor and the amount of got upsales. I think all shops own by corporation are subjected to these types of scams.

    Just saw this video. As a retired brake and alignment tech, this kind if crap pisses me off. I worked for years at a major tire retailer and the famous alignment check was standard operation, BUT i would never charge a customer for something like that, thatbplace is an obvious rip-off. We as techs couldn't do anything about the cost of the sensor kit, but they are needed, especially in areas that have a lot of inclement weather. It really bothers me when businesses do stuff like this because it makes it harder to sell to the people who really need the alignment done

Car runs and drives fine, no warning lights and replaced pads myself 2 months prior. But it was my female roommate who brought the car in. Then brought my Camry to the local stealership because front end was shaking. They told me inner tie rods 1800.00 , brought it home, replaced them myself in less than an hour and it didnt solve the problem it turned out to be cv axels.
